Dive in the Pool

Reference

Well, with my mother’s socks done, I can start a new pair with a clean conscience. And that new pair is using the Socks That Rock that I got at the MSWF. This is side one:

STR Carbon side 1

And this is side two:

Yes, the mediumweight is pooling something fierce for me. Whether I like it or not is still up for debate, but it is an easy knit. An easy knit is something that I need to take a break after a few rounds of this:

Diamond brocade sock with pinstriped foot

Yes, the diamond brocade sock is off of the back burner now that Mom’s socks are done. I am doing pinstriping for the foot. I am not sure how I like it just yet. I actually like it better looking at it in the photo that I do seeing it in person. And oy! Does it hurt my hands to do a few rounds of it. It gets me thinking, “How many rounds of this am I doing?”

Oh, BTW! Stop by and wish Mel and David congratulations.

  1. Wow! That is some serious pooling!

The yarn I’m using on Dad’s socks is Trekking XXL 🙂

  2. I’m not sure what it is about the pinstriping that is making your hands hurt, but I’ll throw this out there and see what you think. It looks like you’re making the stripes by working “*K1 with A, k1 with B; rep from *”. That tends to make a fabric without much give around the circumference (as is typical for stranded knitting). There is a different way to work vertical stripes:
Rnd 1: With A, *k1, k1 into center of st below st on left needle and drop st from left needle; rep from *.
Rnd 2: With B, *k1 into center of st below st on left needle and drop st from left needle, k1; rep from *.
Rep these 2 rnds for patt. (Heh, a patt for Pat!)
This is written for an even number of stitches. You’re only using one color per round, but still getting vertical stripes. The fabric has a lot more stretch to it. (This is all from memory. With any luck I haven’t forgotten anything crucial.)

  3. I can’t tell how much I adore the Diamond Brocade socks. They’re just exquisite. *mwah!*

  4. I’m curious to see which side will be up on your STR socks. What technique did you use for these toe up socks? I love your Diamond Brocade socks, especially how the colors look together. Do you work 2 rounds for essentially 1 round completed? I’m amazed at those 12″ circulars, my hands are not that strong.

  5. I have to say that ordinarily, pooling bothers me. I usually use two skeins of yarn to offset it. But with the color contrast in that yarn, it is really making striking socks. The Diamond Brocade socks are fantastic! So, two great pairs of socks. You’re really having a productive summer.
